I am a Health and Wellness Specialist with a concentration on Diabetes. I worked for the post office for 5 years and didn’t like it. I desired freedom, the type of freedom that allowed me to work from home and be there for my family without having to ask for time off. The truth of the matter was that I was expendable. The company could have let me go anytime, but no one could replace me in my family’s lives. I prayed to God about releasing me from that job, and He answered! My last official day was December 31, 2018. Now, where would I go from there? What was I really purposed to do? Sometimes to gain perspective about your life, you must first envision it, and I did just that by creating a vision board. It was amidst creating the vision board where God revealed my purpose.
Passionately helping individuals change their lives by merely exercising and changing their eating habits. Not only will they be heart-healthy, but my heart is happy when they get healthy naturally.
Ever since I can remember, I’ve had such a passion for Dance. Perhaps it was the exhilaration of the movement or the way it allowed me to relieve stress. Nevertheless, during my second year in college, I fell in love with fitness as a result. Since I was so passionate about movement, I gained my B.S. in Exercise Science and an M.S. in Sports Management. Did I mention that I love to get moving? Exercise is a mood shifter, exhilarating, and a game-changer when it comes to healthy living. Health is wealth; it’s a lifestyle. Looking at life from the perspective of winning a war and not a battle, you’d realize that the win will take strategy, adjustment, and time.
For instance, as big as I am on exercise, it’s only a small battle in a war. Great nutritional choices for healthy eating is a much bigger battle to set your focus upon. For example, people with Type II Diabetes can reverse this disease with proper meal planning, healthy eating, and regular exercise! Many people diagnosed with this disease are unaware they hold power to potentially change their lives by changing what they put in their mouths. For this reason, I wrote, “Reversing Diabetes: Birthing A Healthy Lifestyle To Create Your Legacy.” Some people have settled with diagnoses resulting from poor health choices, but they don’t have to! There’s always more to life than what we often settle for, and I want to be the catalyst for a lasting healthy legacy for people and their families.
In 2020, during the pandemic, I started the “Revive Ya Life: 21 Day Challenge” to help people discuss and achieve their health goals. The results were amazing! My clients indeed saw results in just 21 days from adjusting their diet and incorporating exercise at least 4 times a week. The experience was entirely virtual and very engaging. They have thanked me for pushing them to be the healthiest version of themselves, and that makes my heart smile. Was writing an ebook and putting myself out there to conduct a 21-day challenge something I initially set out to do? No, but to see the need and not help because of fear and any other apprehension was selfish. Not only was stepping out of my comfort zone life-changing for me, but it has been life-changing for my clients as well. Currently, I am brainstorming a course that I can offer that tackles mindset shift in addition to diet and exercise. Proverbs 23:7 says in part, “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.” I believe that if a person first works on their mindset, then change can occur because it is developed through how a person thinks. There is a root behind how we eat and how we move. When we do both without intention, we will engage both mindlessly, often making poor choices based on our mood and not our well-being.
My job is to help them get to that root.
